Why Doesn't Coconut Water Show Potassium/Magnesium on the Label?

Details

Coconut water naturally contains potassium and magnesium. However, companies only need to list these on the nutrition information panel (NIP) if they make a health claim about it, like "high in potassium".

All Healthier Choice Symbol (HCS) products must show certain core nutrients on the NIP. These are:

  • Energy
  • Protein
  • Total fat
  • Saturated fat
  • Cholesterol
  • Carbohydrates
  • Total sugar
  • Dietary fibre
  • Sodium

Other nutrients are optional unless the company wants to highlight them with a health claim.
