We removed eggs from the Healthier Choice Symbol programme in April 2020 based on updated scientific evidence. This is part of our regular review of the guidelines to make sure they are up to date.
The latest research shows that cholesterol in food has less impact on blood cholesterol than previously thought. Since the egg criteria was based outdated criteria, we have removed the fresh eggs and egg substitutes category from HCS.
It is important to note that:
- Removing eggs does not mean they are less healthy.
- Eggs are still a good source of protein and can be part of a balanced diet.
